8.4.2003 feelin' hot! hot! hot!

it's been bloody hot here the last few days... and they say that it could hit 40 degrees in southwestern germany on wednesday... well, luckily, i don't live down there, but the forecast is still 30+ degrees for the whole week. bleh.

anyhoo, i decided to take the plunge and buy a medium format camera. unfortunately, i can't afford what i really want... a hasselblad. even a used one on ebay is out of my range. but i did manage to get a used mamiya 645 on ebay for less than 350 euros. not a bad deal. unfortunately, i still have the high bid on another one, and my limit is even higher than what i posted for this one, so i might end up with 2... eh, we'll see. maybe my bro gets an early birthday present... :P

service at ibc was a bit smaller today... some ppl have left, and others weren't around... gabrielle and christine went back to namibia and south africa last week, respectively... damaris went back to holland this week... claudia is in nicaragua for a month... volker is still in malawi... amélie is on vacation... felicia and the other african girls weren't around... it felt so empty...

8.8.2003 i'm melting!

it is deadly hot here. even more than before. you know how i wrote that it was gonna be hot this week? i was right, unfortunately. over 30 degrees every day. hot and humid. like, taiwan hot and humid. when i left work on wed., around 6pm, it was still 35 degrees. ugh. so gross.

well, i got overbid on that hassy, thank goodness... my mamiya finally got here today... sorta been playing with it, figuring it out, etc... i can't wait to start shooting with it. should be interesting...

finished reading what uncle sam really wants by noam chomsky yesterday, and now i'm already on page 92 of his 9/11 book... they're basically the same... him ranting in sometimes-vague ways about american foreign policy and hegemony... apparently, everything that's happened on a world scale in the last 60 years is related to the us government trying to keep their big businesses profitable, and the poor ppl poor. eh, interesting reads...

gonna update later tonight with my first copenhagen recap... it's about time... :P

8.9.2003 copenhagen recap day 1

correction (8/16/2003): i forgot about the movie i watched that night. i've written a bit more at the end.

so here it is, finally, the start of the copenhagen recap... it's really too bad i'm so lazy... i think i've forgotten a lot of the little interesting details, so you'll have to bear with me...

panorama view of the rådhusplads (click for a larger version)

i took the night train from köln to copenhagen, or københavn in danish (don't ask me how they pronounce that "vn" at the end... i have no clue). i settled into a crappy recliner chair for almost 12 hours, wondering why i always insist on taking the cheap way when it's so stinkin' uncomfortable... eh, whatever. i got there, right? right.

the nytorv

the first thing off the train was to find some money. denmark isn't part of the euro-zone, so i had to get some local currency, the danish kronor, or crowns. seriously, i spent half an hour looking for a bank machine in the train station... i just couldn't find the darn thing. i finally found one and pulled out an obscene amount of cash for a long weekend, figuring danish prices were higher than normal...

giant spider art at the nytorv

i made my way from the train station to the hostel... booked myself a spot at some hostel called sleep-in heaven... well, heaven it ain't, but all i wanted was a bed, so no worries there... somehow, i lucked out and got the small room, with only 14 beds in it. yeah, lucky cuz the big room had almost 100 beds in it! it was like a warehouse... crazy.

out and about at the højbro plads

after dropping off my pack, and grabbing a bite to eat at a local restaurant, i went into the city to look around... everyone says you have to start at the strøget, this long pedestrian-only area, full of shops and cafés... and everyone is right. it's really nice to walk, if you ignore the tourist-trap stores (unless you want postcards)... there are a few public squares along the way, like nytorv and højbro plads, where ppl congregate...

panorama view of the kongens nytorv (click for a larger version)

i walked all the way down to the end of strøget, to the kongens nytorv square... it really started raining then, and i stood under an overhang for about 15 minutes before i decided to risk life and limb (ok, not really) to take some pics... luckily, the rain stopped right then! awesome...

near the kongelige teater, waiting out the rain

one of the best things about denmark (besides the hot danish women) is the influence of good design... most ppl think of sweden when they think of scandinavian design (ikea probably has something to do with it), but the danes are no slouches either. i love the mix of old and new design, intricate vs. simple... i mean, look at the phone booth design... you think the politicians in toronto would ever pony up for something like that? as if!

i have no idea what the børsen is

i continued walking around, though i was out of the main pedestrian area now... more cars than ppl, never a good thing... i saw this børsen building, but i have no idea what it was, nor did i have the inclination to check it out... i mean, it looked cool, but not that cool. instead, i was near the christiansborg palace, so i headed that way...

the other end of højbro plads

along the way there, i realized that i had done a big circuit, cuz i ended up on the other side of højbro plads... the dark clouds and the shining sun were making the sky really interesting, and even walking further towards the entrance of christiansborg palace, there were some striking vistas... unfortunately, i took those with my f100, not my digicam, so i might not post those... depends how lazy i feel, which admittedly can be quite a lot most of the time... :P

ok, so a little note here about hot danish women. really, i thought it was just a myth, a self-perpetuating one, at that. i was thinking that, danish girls aren't better-looking on average, the good-looking ones are just better looking. well, i was wrong (happily)... danish girls are better looking! even the asian girls in copenhagen are better-looking than normal! what's the deal with that? must be something in the water... heheheh... it's not just the blonde-haired, blue-eyed ones, though there are plenty of them, but just in general... deadly.

the christiansborg palace

anyways, i finally made my way to the christiansborg palace... to tell you the truth, it was quite a disappointment. i guess it must've sounded better on paper, or by someone else's description, but i found it to be quite nondescript, quite boring. good for a couple pics, but definitely not awe-inspiring in any way. even casa loma is more interesting. shame! :P

the black diamond aka the national library

i headed down to the main river area, where i stumbled upon the black diamond, this funky building by the water's edge... turns out, this is the new national (royal?) library! deadly. the design is pretty crazy too, stretching across the road with steel trusses and tempered glass... heh, kinda ashamed to say this, but i did try to sneak in some free internet time... but the browsers only worked for within the library... doh!

christiansbro, the area on the other side of the river

after hanging around the black diamond a bit, partially to rest, partially to think, i randomly hopped on a bus to go somewhere else... anywhere else... i figured, the worst-case scenario was that i'd get taken on a bus tour of some crappy suburb... well, i was almost right... heheheh... :P

the bus crossed over the river into the christianshavn area, and kept driving around... now if you know anything about copenhagen, you'll know that it's rather famous for the area known as christiania... doesn't ring a bell? well, basically it's squatters' paradise... and a pothead's paradise too.

the history of the place is that it was an abandoned military camp, and ppl started squatting there... the danish government never cracked down on it, and basically has a hands-off policy on it... it's sorta it's own city-state within copenhagen, where only 2 rules exist: a. no hard drugs, and b. no violence. well, there are other rules, but they sorta spawn off those two... in spite of its looks, it's not a slum by any means. ppl choose to live there, whether you're rich or poor...

anyways, i don't have any pics cuz that's one of the follow-on rules - no pics allowed. oh wellz. after touring around christiania (and drinking a "special" beer), i left to get some grub, and basically went back to the hostel to chill...

but on my way back, i saw a movie theatre... you know me and my movies... i was curious to see what was playing, so i went to check it out... they had a whole bunch of new movies! well, ones i hadn't seen at least... after a quick thought, i decided to watch x-men 2... heh, interesting way to spend your time in a new city eh? well, it wasn't the first time i'd done something like that...

8.15.2003 one reason to have a fixed phone...

i was gonna try to write about my copenhagen trip some more, but another one of those where-were-you-when-this-happened events came along to gimme something else to write about. you know what i'm talking about (or maybe you don't)... well, i'm talking about the massive power failure in ontario and the northeast usa.

i was just surfing, sometime after 10pm here, when i went to check my icq list. oddly enough, there were only 7 ppl on my list who were online... normally it's a lot more. and i mean a lot. tons of ppl leave their computers on, and their icq on away or n/a or whatever... not this time. i was like, er, a whole ton of ppl went offline... it didn't occur to me that it coulda been something big.

it wasn't less than 5 minutes later when thomas, one of my roommates, came in to tell me about this huge power failure that hit toronto and nyc... he saw it on the news... my first instinct was to check cnn.com, and my second instinct was, oh, that's why everyone's offline... heheheh...

anyways, hope everyone's alright back home and nothing major happened. i guess i'll find out tomorrow.

8.16.2003 copenhagen recap day 2

i forgot to mention in the day 1 recap that i had met a japanese guy named yuji, who was travelling around europe and works for mitsubishi motors... heh, i was like, how's the new evo, and he's like, oh, it's a good car... heheh, what an understatement.

katherine and me

i slept in relatively late, as everyone except yuji was already gone by the time i woke up. i got myself ready for another day of adventure, and while i was asking something at the reception, a girl checked in... she was from vancouver! i intro'd myself and i found out that katherine was doing a whirlwind tour of copenhagen... just that one day! she was on her way to somewhere in sweden to meet a friend, so she could only spend a day in copenhagen...

me and the little mermaid

well, i proposed that we do a little exploring together and she agreed... we set off looking for the little mermaid statue that's really famous for some reason... i don't recall exactly why, but suffice it to say, you just have to see it, if you're in town. so off we went... it's not exactly easy to get to, we had to take a bus, a train and do a lot of walking into the citadel off of where it was located... and then it wasn't all that, but there were tons of ppl around, taking pics and what-not...

well, katherine and i got along smashingly well, but she had to see the stuff i already saw the day before... darn. we made plans to meet up for dinner, but since she didn't have a cell phone, it was gonna be tough to coordinate, as we both didn't want to limit the options we had to explore, just cuz we made plans...

well, we split up as i went to explore more of the pedestrian zone next to the strøget... copenhagen is a really pedestrian-friendly city... lots of sidestreets and alleys with small cafés and shops... i took my time walking around, having a cappucino here, drinking a beer there... but eventually, i got tired of that, so off i went in search of a nice castle that everyone's supposed to see, rosenborg slot...

the marmorkirken

well, i sorta found it... the backyard was a military barracks and i kinda walked through the front door before being politely asked to leave without getting shot. heheh, ok, it wasn't quite that bad, but still. anyways, i went around to the entrance of the castle... and it was closed! darn it! i missed it by 15 minutes. argh. that really sucked, so then, i was like, ok, time to check out another castle, amalienborg slot...

well, on my way there, i saw this interesting domed church, called marmorkirken... the most interesting thing was that in the 2 small gardens on the sides of the church, there were stone statues of what looked like saints... i couldn't understand what the inscriptions were, so i can't say for certain, but who else would a church put there?

this gent isn't quite as polished as those in london

anyways, the castle was a little boring. nothing like a cool german castle like neuschwanstein. the best part though were the guards on duty... like the british ones at buckingham palace. so that meant the queen was in town... the danish one, not queen elizabeth ii. i didn't see any changing of the guard ceremony or anything, but from the marching, i could tell these guys weren't as crisp as the ones in the uk... pity... :P

panorama view of the nyhavn (click for a larger version)

i was walking along the harbourfront, when i stumbled upon nyhavn... it's like this super trendy area with lots of bars and restaurants and tons of ppl were just hanging out there... the buildings were all brightly coloured, and there were some old sailboats moored there... the scene was fantastic. i hung out there for a bit, kinda wanting to eat, but then kinda wanting to meet up with katherine again... didn't know when to go back, cuz i didn't wanna wait around for her or anything...

this anchor's pretty useless on shore

but back i went... and she wasn't there. no message either. darn. yuji was chilling there and we decided to play a few rounds of pool... there's a crappy pool table there, but hey, whatever kills the time, right? i seem to play better after a pint or two... go figure. well, i met a bunch of other ppl, no one too memorable as everyone seemed to have their own posse already... oh wellz.

well, katherine came back after a while, and she said she had been here waiting for me earlier, but she got too hungry and went off to find something... doh! note to self: always follow your first instinct. well, she came along while i got some grub (i was SO hungry at this point), and we chatted about the stuff we saw and all... after that, we just went back to the hostel for some sleepy time...

8.18.2003 prelude to ode to keira knightley

well, this weekend was a lot more chill than before... one big reason was that the weather really calmed down the last couple days, to the point where it's actually a bit cold at night... i sleep with the window open a bit, and i needed my blanket last night... i've been doing without for the last few weeks so it seemed a bit odd... oh wellz, it's definitely more comfortable now...

i went to heerlen on saturday and watched a couple movies... first i saw pirates of the caribbean... very entertaining. i don't remember the last time i saw a good pirate flick... and of course, it was helped immeasurably by the on-screen presence of that oh-so-lovely keira knightley...

dedicated readers will remember me singing her praises as an up-and-coming hottie after i saw bend it like beckham last year... she looks even better with that long hair. it's funny how she's replaced natalie portman as my definition of "beauty incarnate"... hahaha... q2 and bj will get a kick out of that one... but it's funny cuz keira was the uncredited twin of natalie in episode i - the phantom menace... deadly, eh? do i know how to pick 'em or what?

anyways, the second film i saw was tomb raider - the cradle of life... it was better than i thought it would be... i especially liked the part that simon yam (yum dat wah in my horrible phonetic cantonese) was in... i was like, deadly, a real hk movie star! unfortunately, since i was in the netherlands (cuz the movies are in english there), i was the only one who recognized him... shame... well, props for me, of course... :P

today there was a wedding blessing ceremony thing at ibc for chris and sigrun... i was totally underdressed for it, as i was late getting out of bed, and so i just threw on my usual clothes... shorts, t-shirt, and a top (today, it was a grey short-sleeve button-up)... well, not everyone was dressed to the nines, but needless to say, i was feeling pretty dorky.

it was nice though... we had a shortened service, then we sprang into a pseudo-wedding ceremony, complete with exchanging of vows and the ring thing... afterwards, we had a whole pile of ppl downstairs in the fellowship area for some food and drink... good times...

this entry is clearly longer than i expected it to be, so i won't post anymore about how hot keira knightley is, but rest assured, faithful wongoz.com'ers, i'll quench that thirst eventually. :P

8.19.2003 copenhagen recap day 3

how deadly is this. finishing up my copenhagen recap in less than 2 weeks. crazy.

so on day 3 (may 3), i again slept in quite a bit... yuji was gone, like, literally... and so was katherine... so i was again on my own... i took my sweet time getting ready, checking email, getting a bite to eat... cuz the place i went to first was the carlsberg museum!

the carlsberg bar (click for a larger version)

the museum is in the middle of nowhere, and you really have to want to go there, cuz there's just nothing else around... but then again, with free admission and 2 free beers (that's right! FREE BEER!), why wouldn't you wanna go? hahaha...

an old school carlsberg beer cart

the museum itself is quite interesting... for me, i found the history of the brewery to be of particular interest, since i found out that tuborg and carlsberg are both owned by the same company! it wasn't always that way, and in fact, there used to be 2 different carlsberg breweries... the "old" carlsberg, from the father, and ny (new) carlsberg, from the son...

bottles from back when the swastika wasn't inherently evil...

i can't remember which father and son combo, since it's obviously quite an old operation, but needless to say, they saw the folly of having 2 different breweries and merged back together again... and swallowing up a whole bunch of breweries with it (not just danish ones either)... i think i read somewhere that 95% of the beer sold in denmark is from the carlsberg company... deadly... sounds like interbrew almost...

the post office in malmö

after the museum, i went straight to the train station to get a ticket to malmö... it's a city on the other side of the øresund, the strait dividing sweden and denmark... i figured, i'm so close, why not hit up another country! so it's not stockholm... i ain't sweating it. i mean, how bad could it be, right? there's plenty of swedish stuff i know... abba, volvo, ikea, saab... heh, no prob.

neat statues in the middle of a malmö street

except there was a prob... the city was pretty dead! i dunno, i mean, the streets are nice enough, but there weren't many ppl just walking around... definitely not as lively as copenhagen... but the design elements that the swedish are famous for are alive and well... it's interesting... you think ikea and you think minimalist functionality, right? sorta post-modern stuff? malmö isn't all like that... granted, it might be cuz it's the old city centre, but there's a nice mix of old buildings and new design.

traditional swedish meal? you bet

there wasn't a lot to see after 4pm, when all the stores closed... i was getting pretty hungry again, so i went to get some real swedish food... well, you can argue all you want, if you don't think swedish meatballs are really swedish, but i have to say that the meatball dish at gloria's lounge are the best meatballs i've ever eaten, bar none. it's not even close. the mashed was really good too. definitely worth it.

the tivoli amusement park

well, after deciding i didn't want to stay in malmö any longer, i went back to copenhagen not really knowing what to do... i was kinda thinking of going back to the hostel to chill, or maybe another movie, but right across from the train station is the tivoli... it's like an amusement park, smack dab in the middle of the city...

katherine had told me to go at night, when the place gets lit up all nice and pretty... well, it wasn't that dark yet, but with the copenhagen card i had (free public transit plus entry into various attractions), i could go into tivoli for free! so why not... if it was boring, i could take off and then come back when it got darker...

so anyways, i walked around for a while, just checking out the different parts... it felt like a mix between canada's wonderland and epcot centre, only with crappier rides. there was this kids' marching band thingy, and live bands performing... i think it used to be a playground for the copenhagen elite before it was opened to the general public... or maybe that's something i just heard...

tivoli is marvellous at night (click for a larger version)

anyways, i was pretty ready to give up on the park when i stumbled onto an arcade... uh-oh! that's right... for some reason, the money i had on me was suddenly burning a hole in my pocket and i proceeded to kill an hour by playing time crisis 3 and this beachhead assault game... i got into the whole carny spirit and played some of those midway games and actually won a few "prizes"... they were really more like burdens since now i had to take them home...

i found out that there were also fireworks later that night at tivoli, so i wanted to stay a bit for that... i managed to waste my time trying to figure out a way to pick up this gorgeous danish girl who was working there... gosh, i'm so lame... i went up to buy a water from her, then asked her if she knew if there were any good places to go out to... she was like, a jazz club or dancing? and i was like, whatever. so she told me the name of this one place and also recommended other places in the strøget... and then, the moment of truth... i asked her if she was going to any of these places... i swear, no reaction on her face, she said she wasn't going out that night... <sigh> oh wellz.

the fireworks were pretty good, and the burger king i hit up after i left tivoli was alright, but i never did go out that night... just went back to the hostel and slept.

8.20.2003 why black?

just catching up on a bit of info i should have passed on a while back...

viet and donna are coming to visit on friday... they've been in paris since saturday, i think, and they'll be here for about 30 hours or so... yeah, not too much time, but then, you don't need a lot of time to see aachen. they were supposed to come thursday evening, but they waited too long to get tickets for the thalys train and couldn't get any discount fares that day. doh.

lyds is coming next wed... i can't believe it's so soon! that means my 3-week trip to the balkans is just around the corner! crazy. well, she's coming for a few days before, and staying a few days after our trip... we'll be leaving on aug. 30 to tour selected areas in slovenia, croatia, bosnia, serbia and hungary. i doubt i'll be updating during that time, so i'll just have to post a lot more in the next 10 days before we go... hahaha...

oh, an important note... some ppl are checking this site for the first time in a while. lemme just say, posts about my travels, such as my copenhagen recaps... those aren't happening as i post them. i'm just catching up on a ton of travelling recaps i shoulda made a long time ago... maybe i'll write a little note about that, just to make sure ppl understand.

finally, i saw some recent pics of keira knightley, from the premiere of pirates of the caribbean... she cut her hair and dyed it black. ugh. i mean, she's still pretty hot, but she's nowhere near beauty incarnate. she's more like, a young winona copy, during that goth phase... and keira seems pretty thin... not stick-like, but not too far from it either. <sigh> why couldn't she stick with the long blonde hair?

8.24.2003 coming and going

so no one claimed hit 13,000... who are you?

viet and donna at the hauptbahnhof

well, viet and donna came on friday... i picked them up from the hbf at noon, after getting the audi a3 i rented... it was great to see them again. heh, they didn't know i was coming to the hbf, and so viet was trying to figure out how to call me from a payphone... he didn't have much success... ok, any success... hahaha... we did a quick tour of aachen in the car, and then headed to köln... viet and donna were both pretty surprised at how smoothly you can drive on the autobahn... 180kph felt like 140 back in toronto! heheheh...

well, we saw the dom, shopped a bit (donna got a replacement strap for her lv bag, and i picked up my new glasses), walked around... they were pretty impressed, i think. we had lunch at the früh kolsch brewery, which is pretty darn german... i thought it was coolz that they tried german food first... we also went to the imhoff stollwerck chocolate museum, though we didn't go into the actual museum... we just bought chocolate in the store, hahaha...

after that, we went back to aachen, chilled a bit and then went for dinner with jason at la finestra... viet was remarking about how much cheaper food is here than in paris... but he still thinks he couldn't live here for very long... apparently, it's just too small of a city. eh, it's his loss. :P

viet and me

yesterday, we slept in and then got lunch to go, as we drove to the dreilandenpunt (for those who don't remember, it's the place where the 3 countries of germany, netherlands and belgium all meet, at one point)... then we headed into maastricht to look around there... it was pretty busy, with all the shops open and tons of ppl milling about... we just walked around a bit, didn't buy anything, although donna was looking around for good deals...

finally, we came back into aachen for a little tour around here... i showed them the dom, the markt and rathaus, just places around the centre... there was a wine festival or something in the katschhof, so we stayed for some reibekuchen, which they liked, and donna and i tried a glass of a dry white riesling wine from one of the stands... very nice.

afterwards, we chilled a bit more before i drove them to the hbf so they could catch the train back to paris... yeah, they only stayed one night, but it was coolz... they're on their way back to toronto now, as i type this, so hopefully, their trip has been a good one... it was nice to catch up and all that.

me and my new glasses

so yeah, my new glasses... i decided to get new glasses cuz my old ones are really beat up... they've been bent outta shape and put back into shape so many times cuz i play sports with them sometimes... and i still will, since now i have my new glasses, i don't have to worry about them so much... the new ones i got are pretty nice, though pretty expensive too... they're from oliver peoples, the zuko xl. i think it's the type that spike lee wears too. well, it looks like it anyways. heheh... so now, with my short hair and the light beard and the new glasses, i have this half-thug, half-artist kinda look. hahaha... so jokes.

anyways, a little more about people... chris' birthday is coming up this week... lauren is on some whirlwind tour of europe before she goes back to kingston for her last year of commerce. we won't get to see her again before she goes back. awww... and lyds is arriving in 3 days! deadly. should be good times.

posted by wongoz @ 12.05p gmt+1 | link it! | back to top

8.27.2003 zzzz?

well, less than 24 hours before lyds arrives... less than 24 hours before chris' birthday bbq... less than 4 days before the start of my balkan vacation... deadly. and i'm totally not even in the mindset yet...

not much to report really... oh, well, the 'rents and mike are on their own vacation now, in newfoundland... i think they were in cornerbrook yesterday, reputed to be the second-largest city in newfoundland... with a population less than that of my alma mater... hahaha...

looks like most ppl have gone on vacation or something... after the rash of blog entries after the big blackout, it's starting to look like suburban wichita... even the usually reliable mongoose is awol... hellooo?

oh yeah, there's the little issue about my penchant to sleep. everyone knows me as the guy who can sleep anywhere... seriously, ask anyone who knows me well, and they know, i can fall asleep just about anywhere, anytime. it's not really random so it's not narcolepsy or anything, but on the other hand, i can't control it really... i just get really tired suddenly and that's that.

well, it's become a problem at work, so now i'm getting my blood tested by herr doktor stüsser to see if there's a medical problem... i'm kinda hoping there is, since that would explain a lot. but we'll see.

anyways, i'll probably fit in the last copenhagen entry i need to make before i hit the road...

8.29.2003 copenhagen recap day 4

my last day in copenhagen, and i couldn't believe that i still hadn't had what i considered real danish food... so i said to myself, gotta get some for sure. i asked the reception at the hostel when i checked out for a recommended place to eat, and they gave me a name. i wasn't sure if it was good or not, but the girl said that that was where she goes when she wants real danish food. hey, good enough for me!

so i first dropped my pack off at the train station, since i didn't want to lug it around everywhere, and then i went to find the restaurant... it wasn't too hard, but it was closed... doh! however, i wouldn't give in. i was gonna eat danish food if it was the last thing i did!

thankfully, it wasn't so hard... i went to the tivoli and ate at one of the restaurants inside... it wasn't the cheapest, by any stretch of the imagination, but it was good. open-face seafood sandwich... mmm...

i had a few hours to kill, and nothing else to do... and so, of course, i went to watch more movies... that's right. more than one. hahaha... i ended up watching daredevil and the hunted... not too bad, but a little predictable. both of them. eh.

i got back to the train station and got on the night train that was taking me back to germany... there were a couple americans in the compartment, andy and annika, and a danish guy, soren. it's funny, when annika told me her name, i was thinking it was a weird name, like "monica" without the m... but then, when soren heard it, he was like, oh, that's a scandinavian name! and then i clued in, that she meant it like "annika"... eh, how dumb am i.

anyways, the four of us talked, along with this russian guy who joined us later, for a while, before we all tried unsuccessfully to sleep. the best line of the night was soren's, and i think i've mentioned it before... we were talking about how scandinavians are so good-looking (stereotypical swedish swimsuit team, eh?), and his explanation was that all the ugly vikings were sent abroad to rape and pillage, while all the good-looking ones stayed at home. hahaha... so jokes.

no pics from this day... wasn't much to see anyways. woohoo! finally done the copenhagen recaps.
