10.14.2004 happy belated turkey day!
well, i meant to write a lot earlier. like 2 days ago. actually, i've been meaning to write a lot more often,
but i just haven't had the time to sit down and code. methinks it's time to switch to a new system.
alright, so what's been going on this month... let's see... angie had her going-away party (pics to come at some
random point in the future) last friday, and then she moved out on sunday... left for dortmund, where she found
a nice cushy job. <sigh> first thomas, and now angie... well, hopefully we picked out a good
replacement... actually, the german word nachmieter explains it all... it's literally "after
renter"... anna, a hungarian girl, seems pretty nice, so we'll see...
been playing indoor football (sorry, soccer) with some guys from philips,
like david, jose and toni... mark is supposed to play too, but he sprained his ankle, so now he's on crutches...
i've been playing in goal, so i hooked up some goal mitts, and so far, i'm a bit rusty, but the other guys
already think i'm better than the other goalie they had cuz they can play more aggressive with me in net... too
bad i'm going on this vacation... i'm missing 3 league matches!
and then 2 saturdays ago was one of the longest days of my life... let's see... on the friday night, i went to
köln to check out my friend anton spinning at this new bar... it was like all house and groove music... nice. i
met up with meike, from the düsseldorf smd... stayed until almost 2am. got
home at about 3am, then went to bed.
ok, so a normal friday night up until now, right? more or less... but here goes... i wake up at 4am, cuz i have
to pickup sophie to drive her to the airport. in brussels. on one hour of sleep. which is 1.5 hours away. am
i making it clear how insane this was? ok, so we make it there around 6am, in time for her flight... then i
drive back to aachen, which takes far longer than normal, cuz i stopped 3 times on the way to nap a little. well,
more than a little. i didn't get home until about 8:30am, and only cuz i bought a ton of food at the 3rd stop
and munched my way back.
alright, so any sane person would've gone home to sleep. but no, i went home, took a shower, and then hopped on
a train back to köln (i wasn't driving there, hell no)... why? photokina!
i slept a bit on the train, but after i got there, i was basically walking non-stop for 6 hours. and i didn't
even see everything. far from it. the place is just massive. i was taking in all the stuff i wanted to see,
esp. the nikon area, and slowly i made my way around. well, it wasn't until
about an hour left before i figured i still had to see adobe and
manfrotto... whoa. i had totally missed all the software companies, all
the lighting and support companies... there were 3 more buildings to see! didn't happen.
i left at 5pm, hopping on a train back to aachen... met an older american fellow on the train and we chatted the
entire way back... kevin does business all over and i think he said that he estimates that he travels 1000km per
week. wow. crazy. anyhoo, so i get back to aachen at 6pm, and then i get picked up by david near the hbf...
to go play an indoor football match! am i certifiable yet?
played in the field for the first half, in goal for the second half... it was a lot of fun though, my first time
playing indoor football in a long time... played from 7 to 8pm, then went home to shower... and then met up with
a few of the guys for dinner at 9:30pm after that. ate dinner and then, well, obviously this story wouldn't be
complete without something else... well, it was anne's bday here, so i went over to her place, and chilled with
her and a few of her friends, feeling quite a bit out of place, but not caring cuz i was too tired to care...
well, they decided to go out to a club at 1:30am, and i bailed, making the first right move i did all day, and
then i went home to sleep.
anyways, so that was my insane saturday... sunday was alright too, though there was quite a bit of driving around
since i had to pick up sophie from brussels airport late at night... nutty.
work has been busy of late, too busy in fact, and i think i might not have the single most important piece of
work i have to finish before my trip actually finished... we'll see. i have a couple more days... and then i'm
off for 4 weeks to asia! deadly.
unfortunately, this means that i probably don't have time to post any pics before my trip, which just means i'll
have that much more to do afterwards. bleh. whatever. like you have any expectations from me now as it is.
ok, time for some z's, laytah...
awww jyeah! hotmail came through as promised! 250mb of storage space! i
could even care less about checking it every 2 days on vacation now! deadly... now the real comparisons can
begin... hotmail vs. yahoo! mail vs.
gmail... the mega-heavyweights in the free web email arena. any thoughts?
in a completely unrelated note, my good ol' buddy nigel, who i'll be visiting in kuala lumpur in about a month,
might be coming to a small screen near you! ok, maybe if you live in asia... but still...

so it seems like everyone's taking off on vacation now... jason's leaving for japan tomorrow, christof to ibiza,
yvonne to bangkok a week from sunday to meet up with chris, this girl kathrin from my spanish class is off to
peru for a month next thursday... it's like a mass exodus. hahaha...
oh, in the comeback of all comebacks in fantasy baseball, my team in "the big pool", with some high school
buddies like whiting, norwood, pat, the hoss, rye, etc., came in second place! woohoo! i came back from being
in 9th with 6 weeks to go into 2nd place on the last day of the season. crazy.
anyhoo, time for bed... gotta drive j to the airport tomolo...
10.21.2004 party like it's 1995
well, in a little over an hour, i'm going to start on my nice, 4-week vacation... first step: getting to
düsseldorf to catch my flight to hong kong via frankfurt. it'll be my first time in hk since 1995, and my first
times ever in china, singapore and malaysia... coolz!
as i expected, no time to post any pics... and i don't know how often i'll get to update while i'm away, if at
all... seeing as how i'm banned in china, i suppose that would be nil then for that. whatever. you, my loyal
readers, will keep coming as long as there is breath in my lungs! yeah, thanks.
anyways, i'm trying not to leave everything to the last minute, so i'll just stop writing here and hope that i'll
get to update while i'm there sometime...
